CUPW is looking for coordinators to carry out union work around the upcoming 2019 federal elections. The coordinator positions are open to MIGS only.

From now until late October, the Union will be working with thousands of organizations and individuals to protect and expand postal services. It will place particular focus on concrete actions the postal service can take in the fight against climate change. The coordinators will play a crucial role in ensuring the success of CUPW’s plan.

Coordinators will work with locals, regions, community groups and the public to:

  • Promote and expand postal services such as postal banking;
  • Promote the Union’s vision as set out in the Delivering Community Power initiative;
  • Gather support by working with our community allies and helping locals organize activities and meetings in support of our Delivering Community Power campaign;
  • Ensure all candidates and political parties make clear commitments with regard to our Delivering Community Power campaign;
  • Make our members aware of the stakes in the coming federal elections;
  • Build membership awareness on the importance of exercising their right to vote;

In addition, coordinators will:

  • Work with CUPW’s Communications and Research Department;
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of the Union’s program;
  • As required, provide written activity reports to the 3rd National Vice President;
  • Support the labour movement’s campaign to protect and enhance workers’ rights.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work well on your own and with others.
  • Ability to multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with community organizing is an asset.
  • Experience and commitment working with the labour or social change movements.
  • All applications from members in good standing will be considered. Please indicate proficiency in French, English and other languages.
  • Ability to work in Microsoft Word and other software programs.
  • Previous experience in political campaigns would be an asset.

There will be travelling involved. Training in campaigning and community organizing will be provided.

Co-ordinators will work under the direction of the 3rd National Vice-President.

Duration: From July 8th to November 8th, 2019.

Wage & benefits:  Union Representative wages & benefits as outlined in the National Constitution and Policies of the Union.

Location:  The successful candidates will work out of the national office, a regional office or other location designated by the Union.
