Friday November 24 2017

On Friday, November 24, our Chief Negotiators, Sister Nancy Beauchamp and Brother Sylvain Lapointe met with Canada Post Chief Negotiators, Mark Bédard and Bruno Cadieux, to discuss logistics. This is a necessary step required to get negotiations moving.

What was discussed?

The parties discussed the role and meeting schedules for the main table and the sub-tables and the locations for the meetings. The main table is the entire negotiating committee, while the sub-tables (Operations, Finance & Benefits and Delivery) deal with specific issues. During this meeting, the parties also confirmed the date for the presentation of demands. This meeting will take place on December 4, 2017.

Request for Mediation Approved

Recently, Canada Post agreed with our proposal to ask the Minister of Labour to appoint a mediator(s) to assist in the negotiations from the very beginning. The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services has informed us that a mediator or mediators will be appointed.  The presence of the Federal Mediation Service should assist the parties in achieving a negotiated collective agreement.
