Mediation – How is it Going?

We have had several days of meetings with Canada Post and the mediators. We have been working hard to understand and work within the framework of this mediation process. As previously mentioned, mediation at the beginning of negotiations, is a first for our Union.

What Has Been Discussed

We have tackled several topics in these first meetings and we have had lengthy conversations about the issues. We have discussed uniforms, access to information, the work system, compensation system, benefits paid leaves, Corporate vehicles and staffing. In the first part of mediation, we are focusing on the issues that impact our members each and every day. The next step will be to see if we can identify solutions to address these issues.

Government Announcement

The January 24th 2018 announcement by Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Procurement and Public Services about the Government’s New Vision for Canada Post will impact this round of bargaining. The Government has opened the door for the introduction of new services and the utilization of the large Canada Post retail network to provide these services. This announcement also means that the issue of restoring door-to-door delivery must be dealt with during our negotiations.

We have much to achieve during this round of bargaining, and now we know that the Government will not restore door-to-door delivery as they promised. We need to be strong and united to achieve what we and the public deserve.
