The Committee tasked with the implementation of Arbitrator Flynn’s decision is frustrated with the delayed payment of retroactive benefits paid out as a result of a workplace accident. We can only imagine how frustrating this can be for the 1,218 members who have been waiting for their pay adjustment—for far too long. We have been putting pressure on Canada Post to put an end to this infuriating delay.

The Corporation’s Explanations

At our last meeting with CPC’s representatives, they outlined the problems and the next steps. Here is what we gathered from their explanations:

  • There are ten (10) different provincial workers’ compensation boards (WCBs).
  • The rules used to determine what wages are eligible for compensation are different from one board to another.
  • Since the payments will be issued by these boards, Canada Post needs to reach an agreement with them on how to share the information needed to ensure that the adjustments are correct.
  • Communication with some boards has been very difficult, and some have still not responded to the Corporation’s request.
  • Only three (3) provincial boards have an agreement with Canada Post on the format of information required to issue payments.
  • Three (3) boards will not issue salary adjustments as it is not part of their obligations under their policy. However, in the interest of fairness, the Corporation has made a commitment to make this adjustment directly.

Next Steps

  • Using the Novapost payroll system, CPC will prepare the wage information in the form required by the provincial WCBs.
  • CPC will send the information to the provincial WCBs following the established procedure if applicable.
  • CPC will ask its contacts at the provincial WCBs when they intend to make payments.

When Will I be Paid?

We do not have a specific answer, and we cannot tell you exactly when you will be paid. This information is in the hands of the provincial WCBs.

These delays are unacceptable. The Union demands that CPC pay you the interest on the money that you have been owed for far too long.
