We now know that local management, as well as a small group of CUPW members were involved in the organization and participation of at least two social gatherings in postal facilities in the GTA. These gatherings have exposed serious compliance issues of the many health and safety measures in place at all facilities. The current outcomes are disastrous, have resulted in workers becoming very ill, and have contributed to further spread of this highly contagious COVID-19 virus.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) is calling on all workers and management alike at Canada Post Corporation to take urgent measures and commit to ending this dangerous behavior. CUPW is calling for strict adherence, enforcement and monitoring of proper safety measures with immediate action to resolve this situation.

We have asked for public health to prioritize Canada Post’s facilities in the Peel region for workplace vaccines. We are making the same demands in other locations across the Country, as we continue to monitor the fluctuation of COVID-19 cases.

In solidarity,
