Canada Post Corporation has advised CUPW that High Risk Leave provisions for members will end on January 22, 2022. The Corporation will be advising members in writing in mid-December, which should provide at least 30 days of notice before the leave is unilaterally set to end. CPC’s position is that members who have a condition preventing them from coming back to work should apply for STDP. CUPW disagrees with this position and we are evaluating our options.

We know that these leaves are certified by a qualified medical practitioner and that many who are on High Risk Leave have legitimate concerns about returning to work. Know that the Union will support you during this difficult period. The health and safety of members remains our top priority.

We have also been advised that, after January 22, 2022, CPC will require medical information under STDP to be provided within the 16 calendar days period contained in the collective agreements; (20.09 (e) Urban and 36.09 (e) RSMC.)

CUPW will develop a plan to address this situation and we will keep you informed as new information becomes available.

RETRACTION of Bulletin 326: High Risk Leave to End in Late January

Wednesday December 15 2021

Retraction: Canada Post Corporation advised CUPW today (December 15, 2021) that it has revised its plans after discussions with CUPW, and will not end high-risk leave on January 22, 2022 as originally planned. Bulletin 326 (December 14, 2021) regarding high-risk leave is no longer accurate.

For now Canada Post’s plan is to advise workers sometime in January that the leave will end sometime in February, however this too may change with the evolution of COVID.
