CUPW applauds the Canadian government’s overdue passage of Bill C-4 to ban conversion therapy. The Bill became law December 8 and now makes the practice a crime.

Conversion therapy has hurt far too many people and caused unnecessary trauma, and we hope this creates a path to healing for the LGBTQ+ community and their families.

No child, youth or adult should ever be subject to harm for being or seeking to live authentically.  By acknowledging that it’s not a choice to be who we are, we can begin to remove the barriers and gender roles that society places on us from an early age.

CUPW firmly believes that the marginalization of people based on sexual orientation, identity or expression is despicable, and reaffirms its commitment to fight bullying and oppression among its ranks, in the workplace, and in society at large.

Essential to freedom is the ability to develop identities and preferences that suit our inner core, and allow us all to thrive as workers and members of our diverse communities.
