CUPW negotiated the CUPW Child Care Fund with Canada Post Corporation in 1991.

The Child Care Fund supports a number of projects to meet the child care needs of CUPW members. We work with community child care service providers in different regions of the country to provide licensed quality child care for members children. The Fund also supports our two largest projects – Special Needs and Moving On.

The Special Needs and Moving On projects provide support and information to postal workers who have young children, or adult children with disabilities or special needs.

We know that far too many members don’t know about these two important projects. We are working with our Social Stewards across the country to change this.

According to Statistics Canada, more than 5.3 million Canadians—almost 16% of the population — are living with some form of disability that affects their level of freedom, independence, or quality of life. Of that number, over 200,000 are children and youth.

CUPW social stewards have been invited to take part in a one-hour webinar to learn about the projects and how they work, and about how they can promote them in the workplace. Social Stewards will also receive the new, Social Stewards Guide to the Special Needs and Moving On Projects along with other key information to help them in this important work.

We know that the best way for members to learn about the Child Care Fund and its projects is by direct contact and word of mouth. With the help of the CUPW social stewards we will be able to get the word out to members in the workplace.
